Create a frame.
A lamp as a frame for elevating elements.
How does light mimic? How does light project? How does light glow? For this project I created a frame for a very important stone, the lava rock.
LAVA
Materials: Materials: Bass wood, coated aluminum wire, rice paper, fishing wire, lightbulb
Time: Fall 2020
Class: Spatial Dynamics, Professor Michael Demps
Process
During design of this frame/lamp, I created a two-part system. The bottom half would house the light source and the upper would house the lava stone, hanging from the top beams of the structure. This would cause the light source to project its light into the rock and surrounding area, and reflect off of the rock, making appear as though it is glowing. The structure itself was built to resemble a volcano. This cyclical way of designing (taking elements back to their natural state) lends to the powerful and magical aura of this object.
Final
How can I elevate a material, literally and spiritually? This final sculpture was initially started as an exploration in light and dissipation, but mutated into a discovery of mood generation through form and subconscious intuition.
